Built  for  Speed Salmon Fishing Charter was established in 1995 and will make your Salmon fishing adventure easy and comfortable.  All equipment, gear, tackle and bait is provided with covered dry seating and washroom facilities on board.

Departing from Horseshoe Bay, West Vancouver, B.C. Canada, we are centrally  and strategically located in the heart of all the most productive hot spots in Vancouver, Howe Sound & the Salish Sea. Being only minutes from prime Chinook/King Salmon feeding grounds can be the difference in making your trip productive.

Salmon fishing in Vancouver is a year round activity, all 5 species migrate through local waters from springtime to fall.

Local Vancouver Salmon fishing is best in the morning. Our  trips leave Horseshoe Bay between 6am and 7am and last 5 hours.  Afternoon trips are available. All gear, tackle, bait & safety equipment is provided. Built for Speed is a 24 ft Express  Cruiser  that can accomdate up to 4 people.   

Captain Chris Speed

Captain Chris Speed has been Salmon fishing the waters of British Columbia for 25 years.  Built for Speed Salmon Fishing Charters was established in 1995 and is in its 23rd year of operation. This has allowed Captain Speed to learn the unique patterns of Pacific Salmon in the Salish Sea, Howe Sound & Vancouver.

As well as a wealth of knowledge with regards to the marine industry and the coast of British Columbia, his years of guiding and salmon fishing experience will contribute to making your experience memorable while fishing for that trophy Pacific Salmon.

A  member of the British Columbia Sportfishing Guides Association, Captain Speed holds:

  • a 60 Tonne Master Captains Ticket
  • current Red Cross First Aid  Level C Certification ( training )
  • Radio Operators Certificate
  • Marine Emergency Duty Tickets
  • Certified Tidal Angling Guide Certified [CTAG}

The Vessel

Built for Speed is a 24ft Zeta deep V wood/fiberglass constructed express cruiser.  Crafted locally by reputable British Columbia boatbuilder Zeta Marine, Captain Speed has personally modified and rigged Built for Speed with only the highest quality hardware & Salmon fishing equipment. The a 8'6" beam, deep V hull, with 4-person custom cushioned seating area make for a very comfortable ride in all sea and weather conditions.

There's a canvas raincover/dropcurtain to protect you rain or shine ,  an on-board heater for colder days and both a cooler and 12Volt fridge to keep drinks and snacks chilled. A private washroom is on board.

Built for Speed is powered by a 2017 Mercruiser383 MPI Inboard & BravoIIIleg, a safe reliable power package. Fishing on the Mercury 15HP4Stroke is fumeless and quiet.

The vessel is fully insured, Transport Canada inspected and carries all safety equipment  required to meet all requirements for charter operation.

Standard/Horizon VHF radio, AM/FM stereo IPOD ready, a host of quality controls & hardware.

Along with a huge range of fine salmon trolling tackle  for all species and conditions​, Built for Speed is rigged with 4 Scotty electric high speed HP2106 downriggers for excellent depth coverage. Fishing rods are 10.5ft soft tipped rods, quality Islander MR3 reels.

Sept 12th Salt Water Fishing Report
Vancouver's saltwater salmon fishing has been very consistent the last week. With Chinook, Coho, Pink and Chum Salmon all moving towards the local rivers, going forward in to fall will provide some excellent fishing. Late September, early October is some of the best local fishing of the year. The largest Chinook of the year are entering local waters, along with big fall Coho Salmon. The next 6 weeks will have some excellent action! Call to book with Captain Speed or for more details.
August 14th Salt Water Fishing Report
Our local saltwater Salmon fishing has really picked up in the last 8 days. Some really nice 15 to 25lb Chinook/King, along with Coho and Pink Salmon have all been entering local waters this week. August is a month when we see a variety of all species and this is shaping up well & will continue into September. Call or email Captain Speed for an up to the minute report. Tight lines!

Our local Vancouver Salmon fishing has been producing some larger Chinook recently up to the 25lb range, along with Coho and Pink Salmon. With august here some of the largest Chinook of the year will be coming into area waters. The great advantage to getting out this time of year is variety with one being able to catch Chinook, Coho & Pink Salmon all in one outing. As August comes around numbers will increase and some very productive days always come about. call Captain Speed anytime for a up to the minute report or to inquire about booking a trip in August2017.
